Happy Memorial Day!
Military Author Radio,with
co-hosts Patriot Media Author Dr. Tom Gauthier and Dari Bradley CEO of Patriot Media, Incorporated, are proud to continue to
produce Military Author Radio and to host our program this Memorial Day
weekend.
This week our guest is Andy Bradley, who is a Senior Control Systems Engineer working for NASA at Kennedy Space Center. In his 21 year career he has designed and built numerous automated systems to help prepare and launch our nation's space vehicles, including tools to help prepare and assemble solid rocket boosters, robots that help grow hydroponic plants for extraterrestrial colony research, and a five story tall robot used to move payloads in and out of the Space Shuttle payload bay. Currently he is the lead electrical engineer for two subsystems that will help prepare the next generation rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS).
In addition to designing systems for NASA, Andy is the lead mentor for a high school robotics team. FIRST robotics is a program that partners high school students with industry leaders in an effort to inspire the sudents to pursue careers in the fields of science and engineering. In the 15 years of his tenure, his team has won 15 regional competitions, five division championships, and have twice finished as world champion runner-ups. More significantly, his team has inspired nearly 300 students to pursue a technical career, and the kids have garnered over half a million dollars in scholarships.
As a spin-off, Andy and some of his team mentors have started a company to build low-cost but capable security support robots. Although the company is still in its infancy, the goal is to provide robot kits to the over 2000 FIRST robotics teams, who can then assemble the robots and sell them to their local police force. Even with a mark-up for the team to use as a fundraiser, the robots will still cost the police less than half of what they would spend on an equivalent retail robot. This will put more of these life-saving devices in the hands of our security forces.
Join us for a fascinating visit with Andy Bradley.
